12-String Dream

Not much doing at the moment. Work, work, work. 🙁 The weather is a bit bleak and typically January. Miserable and dark, but I am sure the first vestiges of Spring will soon be here.
Seen a guitar that I would like for my birthday in February and persuaded the Missus that we could go halfsies on it. It’s only a cheap Fender electro-acoustic 12-string, but I quite fancy it.

The last 12-string I owned was Yamaha model about 10 years ago. The guitar had a problem with the nut because the high E strings would break all the time and it was costing me money to play the thing. So that guitar had to go.
Been messing around with Reason 2.5 and trying to find some rhythmic way into a new recording phase. At the moment it is all very electronic. If I could combine the out-and-out electronica with the 12-string (that I’ll get for my birthday) I might be onto something.
In the meantime, some other poor soul has purchased a copy of my 4-CD boxset “Sows’ Ears & Silk Purses”.

The Little Lemon

Today, we plucked the legendary Lock lemon from our miniature lemon tree that we keep on the kitchen window sill. This lemon has taken about 9 months to grow and ripen. I used the new digital video camera that I bought in the January sales to record the momentous occasion. Below you can watch the footage recorded live from Chez Lock:

New Fridge, New Danger

The promise of some semi-permanent freelance work yesterday was a real uplift and boost to the confidence. It was the ideal start to 2005. While I am not going to get rich, it will keep the wolves from the door. A new piece of office furniture arrived at Chez Lock and I spent the afternoon assembling it. Now my work/recording room looks very “professional”. 🙂
Took the Christmas decorations down. 🙁 That was depressing. Where did Christmas go? I know it happened, but it felt like it was over really quickly this year. The time is like water flowing through my fingers…that scares me.
Today, the new fridge arrived and our old monstrosity was taken away. Hurrah! I just unpacked and installed the new beast in the space provided. During the process, I inadvertantly sliced my thumb open on something sharp. I didn’t notice and was only drawn to the spurting crimson cascade when I noticed vermillion smears all down the front of the new appliance. Now my thumb decides to smart!
Just got to the let the fridge stand for two hours before I can switch it on. Not fair, not fair! I want to switch it on now…

Alone Again (In the Lap of Luxury)

Back to the grindstone. The Missus goes back to work today and I am left alone in the house with only the animals for company. 🙁 However, it was nice to have the time together over Christmas even though we really didn’t do that much.
Yesterday, purchased the new hoover and cleaned the house. Hurrah! I look so macho as I wiggle my hips in time to the sweep, sweep, sweep.
Found a song that I hadn’t finished on my hard drive at the weekend. I polished it up a bit and recorded a solo over the top of it – it worked out so well that I decided to include it on my “I Am Not Your Enemy” CD – which one day will be released. Just got to design the sleeve… Anyway, here’s that track for your delectation, gentle reader. It’s called “The Keys”. Enjoy!
Of course, you could just check out my radio service by clicking the “Radio” button at the top of the screen. Loads of Lock Music on there to terrorise your waking dreams. 🙂

Yet Another Vacuum Cleaner

It was the headline that caught my eye. The obviously place to look for such a missing “brain remote control” is eBay. You can buy almost anything there these days.
Today, we head out to the shops to buy a new hoover. Yes, our old hoover has given up the power to live and refuses to suck. I get through a least one vacuum cleaner a year – it is an expensive business keeping Chez Lock clean. And so a new strategy is to be adopted…we are limited to a £50 hoover budget. Meanwhile, the broken hoover joins the big pile of discarded crap in the shed that needs to be taken to the local refuse centre. That’s one Sunday morning of 2005 accounted for already.

Hello New Year

Hurrah!
The first day of a new year. The rest of 2005 is ripe for the plucking. 🙂
We awoke to find that our fridge had packed up – and by looking at the butter, we reckon it probably failed yesterday. Oh well, the day was spent looking for a replacement that can be delivered with speed.
On a separate note, I got paid from CDBABY for all my music. It seems that my tunes are quite popular on i-Tunes Europe and I am doing quite well in that territory. It filled me with a warm glow. Plus it is good to know that in the past 12 months, I’ve been paid over $300 for my music. (In terms of actual profit, I think I am only breaking even, which is better than making a loss, of course).

Goodbye to All That

It’s the last day of 2004 – hurrah! To say that I cannot wait to see the back of this particular year would be an understatement. It’s has been a strange year. A middling year. A year of minor triumphs and staggering defeats. It has been a year of seeing the unseen, it has been a time of seeing how other people perceive you. Sometimes reality has a nasty way of biting you on the arse.
