I don’t claim to be a genius. I don’t claim that any of my work is particularly good. I am purely an hobbyist arsehole and the tunes I record are widely available from this site as well as websites such as Jamendo.
I wonder if you actually read my post and if the information filtered through your eyes to your brain. I never said everything sucks. My argument is that many people who want to make money in music don’t because only a limited few make a real living from it – thanks to the MusicBizTM. Those who write big hits, write them with three or four chords that my dog could probably learn. That’s because most popular tunes are incredibly simple and why jazz standards don’t top the mainstream charts.
Music today is low art and should be treated as such. Musicians shouldn’t be put on a pedestal because what they contribute to the world isn’t worth that much, despite their protestations that they are very important people. It bores me so. Get over yourself and go sing for your supper – see how hungry you get.

For the majors, and larger independents, maybe. For smaller independent labels, you gamble and you most likely end up out of pocket unless the band/artist ends up ‘the next big thing’. It’s cool to believe in someone and be able to back them for several albums but small labels just don’t have the money to pour away any more.
