Photo Restoration

In this video, I show how I colour correct and fix an old photo removing any damage that was on the negative. I use the colour and contrast tools in Photoshop, but the most of the work is done by the clone stamp tool.

The trick is to use a very small clone brush and to work the areas sympathetically, trying to replace missing colour with similar nearby tones. It takes practice and is fiddly work, but the clone tool can fix 99% of photo damage.

The process took just over fifteen minutes to complete and is compressed down in order not to bore you.

Squirrel

Verity insisted I took some photos of a squirrel on the shed roof. So I nabbed a little bit of video too. I am using my camera and the Canon 75-300mm lens I bought off eBay for less than £60 last Christmas – and we are quite a distance away, hence the wobble as I balance the camera on the window ledge.

Canon Macro Lens Hack (using 35-80mm EF Lens)

I read on this photography forum how to create a simple and cheap macro lens using an old Canon EF lens. So I went looking for one on eBay and luckily I found a suitable lens for sale that was faulty. So I bought it for the amazingly cheap price of £8 (+£4 P&P) and waited for the postman to arrive. I was very pleased to discover that the lens was in fact in perfectly good working order and it was also an older style lens which meant I could simply unscrew it apart to get the desired effect and then put it all back together when I was finished.

So In this video I show how you can turn a Canon EF 35-80mm lens into a macro lens. This is the older style lens and the process is really easy and completely reversible. On the Mark II & Mark III lenses, the outer element is secured by screws and it is a bit more complicated to remove.

All macro pictures featured in this video were taken on a Canon EOS 600D with the adapted 35-80mm macro lens with no post processing. They are the native shots straight from the camera.

Rotolight RL48 Creative Colour Kit – Unboxing & Review

s I am trying to take my video production on YouTube a little more seriously, I thought I would invest in a lighting system so that you can marvel at my glorious appearance in stunning HD – either that or be made copiously sick my the hideousness of my gurning, bloated phizzog.

So I purchased the Rotolight Creative Colour Kit featuring the RL48 LED light array. I bought it because it was small, easily mountable and ran off three AA batteries and would be ideal for my uses.

Here you see me unboxing the product and giving my thoughts on it.
