Today, on 5th September 2012, the inaugural Prog Rock Awards were held at Kew Gardens, produced by Prog Rock magazine and hosted by Gavin Esler. I couldn’t be there (they never invited a scrote like me, obviously) but here are the results for your enjoyment:
New Blood: TesseracT
Live Event: Anathema – Union Chapel/Koko
Anthem: Squackett – Life Within a Day
Album of the Year: Rush – Clockwork Angels
Grand Design: Pink Floyd Immersion Box Sets
Virtuoso: Carl Palmer (Asia/ELP)
Visionary: Peter Hammill
Lifetime Achievement: Genesis
Guiding Light: Steven Wilson
Prog God: Rick Wakeman
Before I got into King Crimson, I discovered this album after immersing myself heavily with Peter Gabriel 2. It is an album that had a profound effect on me and is responsible for me playing the guitar.
In this video, I look at the many variants I have of this album as well as give my incredibly biased opinion of it. Enjoy!
This just happens to be one of my favourite Peter Hammill albums because it straddles the worlds of prog and punk. But it is a pair of bondage trousers or just a glob of mucus spat at you from a pasty-faced teenager? The only way to find out is to watch the video!
