The Darren Lock Primer

I did this video before as part of the Google+ Hangouts and recorded the thing live, but I only had one viewer and the resultant upload quality didn’t really cut the mustard. So here it is again.

It is just a video of me talking about all the music I’ve recorded over the years and hopefully it will be of interest to some of you. Thanks for having the patience to watch it all!

First review of “Steady State of Flux”

In order to garner any interest in my music, I have to give it away. If the professionals cannot sell their wares, then how can a lowly amateur such as myself? Am I still an amateur? I don’t know. I just do what I do and hope for the best. That’s all one can do, isn’t it? Just be. Ooooh, getting a bit metaphysical here.

Anyway the following review appeared on Jamendo, a few hours after the album went live on there, and it sums up what I was trying to achieve with this collection perfectly. Hitting the nail on the head is a fine art, but this reviewer got out his invisible reviewing hammer and knocked home that nail with one fluid motion.

Five star review from “Wolfsong. The Poet”

Sweet and relaxed . . .
a laid back style of music . ..
beautiful . . . it reminded me of laying in the grass,
without a worry on my mind . . .
feeling the whole world at my back . .
and watching the clouds drift away . . .
leaving blue skies . .. and forever,
an eternity of summer days
and dreams . ..

Day dreamy music . . .

And you can download the album for FREE at Jamendo here.

Something delicate on the verge of change...

I have this folder on my desktop where I drop all the mixes of tracks that I produce. It’s a bit of a virtual slush pile and every so often I have a listen and see what I’ve got. Last night, I realised I had nearly enough for a new collection of tunes, but this time around the collection was a bit more mellower than my previous efforts. So I had a sort through some of my other unused tracks and found a couple that were never used (one track “Sketch of Satie” dates back to 2006) which seemed to fit with the current vibe.

The new album is called “Steady State of Flux” which is a contradiction in itself and I managed to take the picture of the dandelion the other day whilst in the garden. It seemed to illustrate my point, something that is delicate but in a state of immediate flux.

Well there you go. You can visit the album page which is here.

You can listen to the album using the player below and if you feel particularly supportive you might want to buy a digital copy. No? OK, it was worth a try…

09-07-11 [Looking Glass]

I am registered with a website called “Sentric Music” and this site supposedly finds music for adverts and whatever promotional contracts it is handling. They often send out emails requesting a certain type of song for a project and usually it is some kind of indie-rock genre that I am not interesting in covering. However, last Friday they sent a brief out for an advert for a mobile phone company and wanted something suitably twee and spacey. This is my attempt at a track for them. I doubt it will get picked but this was recorded specifically for a mobile phone advert. So there you go…

I’ve been putting it off for a long time but I’ve decided to use my Bandcamp profile I set up a few years ago. Today, I uploaded “The Luckiest Man in the World” which you can download for the bargain price of £5. But more importantly, you can listen to the whole thing in fairly decent quality, all the way through. It’s a special set of recordings for me, so please check them out and pass the link on. Click on the big smiling face below to absorb the goodness…

27-04-11 Improvisation

I forgot to post this one the other day. Again, it is just me noodling with the RC-30, all performed live, but I’ve truncated the performance by editing the beginning and ending. No video as I had a cold and my nose was redder than a babboon’s bottom…
