Tag Archive: cover version

I did this earlier in the year and forgot it was on my hard drive. Again, every so often I record a cover of a song that I like – who knows, perhaps there will be Bad Cover Version, Vol 2? Anyhoo, this is a track from “A Night at the Opera” and one of my faves. Funny for someone who cannot drive or who has no interest in cars, but I think I like it because it sums up that passion people have for their interests. The same passion can be transferred to sport, movies or music or what-not.

With this track, I found a MIDI of the original and just kept the drums and recorded all the guitars and bass over the top of those guide drums.

The backing track to this was recorded a long time ago and languished in the “to finish” pile. It’s a combination of a MIDI file I’d downloaded and mixed and the hokey guitar part. I recorded a vocal for this a couple of years ago but because of the limitations of my rig and recording situation, the vocal never came out right or to my satisfaction. At last, with the right inspiration and enough peace and quiet, I finally put down a vocal I am 70% happy with. The beginning is a bit shabby as I hadn’t warmed up my voice and the vocal was recorded in one go – albeit it to rewind and record the overlap bits to make that work (you can see the fade transition on the video).
