This is a rough mix of track I am recording to enter a competition being held at Adrian Belew's website. Belew is a noted guitarist and he's holding a competition where amateur web musicians can create a song using one of his existing tracks as a backing track. This is my effort. The backing track was recorded in 1982 and features Adrian Belew and Tony Levin, playing African percussion.

This is the second live improvised track I recorded using a Boss RC-50 looping pedal. This is more of a sketch than anything serious and is a good demonstration of how I come up with guitar solos. I usually work them out like this and then refine them over time. However, this example has all the mistakes left in and a little bit of distortion too. Enjoy!

The concept behind the recording of this track is an interesting exercise in creating random music and discovering patterns instinctively. Using a Boss RC-20XL, I created a silent loop of about 30 seconds and began to play a single note, building up notes on the repeated loop until random themes begin to form. I particularly like the bell-like chime of the guitar. But the question always remains: is this music? Whatever it is, I personally find it very relaxing and think of it as a truly subconscious creation. Enjoy!
