Hey troll brother - I loved your review. It was perfect for the likes of me that's about to dip their toe into the lopping pool. I'm going for the 50 and then once I'm a genius, I'll move on to the 300, which by then will most probably be the 600.
Thanks for taking the time to give your opinion/advice - appreciated man.

Thanks for insulting me on my own website. No, I won't delete your message because I believe that everyone should stand by their own horrible comments. "Fellow musician" - I don't remember joining the union or being any part of some kind of illicit underground brotherhood? Why insult me? I have had practical time with this unit and I believe that it is OK, but I have some reservations. The onboard effects leave a lot to be desired and, yes, even though you can make some adjustments via the foot pedal, I found editing the effects fiddling and wholly unsatisfying. Your previously comment was a sly dig and, while I don't mind decent constructive comments, I don't need you telling me how good something is despite you never owning or using the actual unit. What were you trying to achieve? Ahhhh, I get it. Trolling... Well go back under your bridge, troll.

Yeah read the manual and have thirty years of experience as an engineer and producer, the effects are editable with expression pedals.I did state that "Having also briefly read the RC300 manual" .I had you down as a fellow musician, but it appears I was mistaken. Excuse me. Feel free to remove my comments TWAT.

Thanks for your input, Mr Know-It-All. However, the added effects are pretty crappy and are hard to tweak on the fly, even if you do save them to the patch. It's a design problem with the RC-300 - the FX section should have had its dedicated control section, a bit like the RC-30, so the user can make adjustments easily. But hey, you just read the manual rather than actually using the unit on a practical level.

I have only had an RC50 for a short while, and find it a great inspirational tool. I am looking to upgrade to the RC300 soon, in answer to some of your reservations, I have pre written patches to suit the material I play live and have downloaded all the advanced supplements regarding proper use of the unit. Having also briefly read the RC300 manual I think you are underestimating the upgrades. The RC300`s effects patches etc.. are all saved as part of a patch and are therefore totally usable live, I am looking forward to getting the pedal and already plan to compose a new 2 hour set using just what you get! After all it`s about creativity not the kit. :)

Yes, the GR-55 would be ideal for you because you can either use a synth distorted guitar sound or route the guitar output from the pickup to the GR-55 and put it through its guitar effects chain.

Darren
I recently bought a Godin Nylon SA. I am wondering how a Roland GR-33 or GR-55 emulates and electric guitar sound. I need just one, decent, clean and distorted guitar sound, that I can use with my band during live performances. The distored sound has to be somewhere in that "AC/DC" range. I just need to produce some power chords in a live performance and I am concered as to how well this can be done via the Godin Nylon and if either the GR-33 or 55 can deliver? Anyone? Thanks!

Hi Darren, I really enjoy your un-boxing videos and funny comments etc, thanks.
Have you ever noticed that in the book in the "shine on" box, the essay about dark side ends with an unfinished sentence? (You probably have). It just shows you how many mistakes seem to slip through with floyd stuff.I agree the extra cd in that box is great, I actually bought it just to hear Point Me At The Sky!!!! Also, I now wish I bought the "Oh by the way" box as it looks far superior than the discovery set (not that I bought that one either as I opted for the immersion sets of DSOTM and WYWH, doubt I'll get the wall immersion as it looks a bit bollocks with no surround discs so I'll wait another 10 years for the wall on sacd!). And I did get the SACD (2 copies) of WYWH which is the nicest ltd Edition I've seen in a while. Out of interest, is the DSOTM disc in "oh By The Way" the SACD version or a normal cd?
Thanks again!
Phil
P.S. You should get your site seen on the drain damage site and also on the fleeting glimpse one too as I'm sure you'd have a big audience there.

Hi there, Darren. I was contemplating whether to buy the Floyd Discovery box set now the price has dipped a bit and happened to chance upon your unboxing on YouTube. This led to me watching your reviews of the Immersion boxes as well and I found all of these a nice mixture of informative and damned hilarious. I've also been checking out some of your prog reviews, which have been really entertaining. I now find myself looking forward to The Wall box coming out, simply so I can watch you get swissie out and review the thing.

I'm a big, big fan of some of the best prog stuff (Floyd, Yes, Genesis, K.C., Mike Oldfield etc.) and I also like a bit of "krautrock" too. Here's the project that I've got on the go at the moment. Almost four years in the making but I'm getting there.....

Anyway: if you feel inclined do get in touch to say hello and, erm.....prog on!!! (-:

Cheers!

Hi Darren
Intersted to listen to your review. You me be interested to know that when Hocus pocus hit the Old Grey Whistletest screen on that sunday evening in 72 the following morning the BBC and record shops were besiged with people looking for it! I bought the LP moving waves from virgin records from the hand of mr Branson himself! I then became a fan of Focus and in particular a fan of Jan Akkerman the lead guitarist. This music and Jans guitar playing moves me on an emotional level, especially seeing the band play "live at the rainbow" and the lute solo at the end!..its on youtube!.Jan still plays and tours the UK and you should catch up with him to experience (hopefully) that "Emotional level" After a gig in the UK 13 years ago i shared a few pints with him after. We remain great friends to this day and he has a great sense of humour and im sure he will enjoy listing to your review...keep up the good work!
You install the MIDI drivers and route the MIDI into Logic that way - or you do it via the MIDI out on the GR-55 into a MIDI interface connected to your computer. I personally wouldn't bother though because triggering will not be as good as using the GR-55 and you are more likely to trigger random notes in the soft synth. The synthesiser built into the GR-55 was designed for use with guitars and a soft synth isn't.

Good luck with it all anyway!

Regards,

D

Darren, my compliments for your setup and playing.
I'd like your opinion and help: I am trying to setup DAW recording with my Logic Studio and my guitar. What's your suggestion as to how to trigger the synth sounds in the DAW with the guitar?
thanks for your help

The review is of the unit "out of the box". I say that you have to dig deep to get the best out of it, so I am not sure what the problem is. Some guitarists like pedals that are intuitive and the Boss RC-300 is not.

Why do you have such a coloured background on your website - do you not like people being able to read your reviews?

Not so sure you comments are correct about the RC 300 my friend. You need to spend time to realise how you can get in deep with this baby....go down the assign routes and its awesome and totally controllable in many many ways.
I had a warble with the bass effect i admitt, but a few tweaks on the amount of effect to 100% soted that out. an make sure its tuned 44.100. that was my only gripe. The effects can be switched from anything...FS6 etc dual latch and not the fiddly way by holding down etc for 2 sec, thats ok for home recording BUT live a no no. assign it and set up targets to pedals etc etc. enjoyed some of your videos, thanks

Thanks for the kind words and I am pleased you like my reviews. Once the festive season has departed, I intend to get to grips with all the records.

Cheers,

Dear Darren, thoroughly enjoy your reviews. Please please listen to the Rush cds, the first two sectors are excellent. I can't believe you haven't listened to Moving Pictures though. That would be great on surround sound as would 2112. The 80s were not a great time, I feel for Rush but they are back to their best at present. Being a die hard fan since Permanent Waves I have no real need for these boxed set though they are very attractive. www.progarchives.com is an excellent website for all things prog especially Rush!
Regards

The settings I use are the settings straight out of the box. Sorry, I cannot give any further help - but the key is to experiment to find best way to get the GR-55 to work for you.

I was looking into you tube your video of the Godin guitar along with the Roland GR-55. Is perfect!!!!
I have a Godin and decided to purchase the Roland GR-55 but have not being able to setup the guitar/pedal through the 13 pin connection on my guitar. Can you send me the settings in order for me to finally set this amazing pedal and try to replicate all the nice sound you displayed in the youtube video?
I will really appreciate your help.

I am a amateur guitarist, and live in Puerto Rico.
